To bring back the joy of roses, look no further than ‘Easy Does It’. Already winning hearts and minds far and wide in the rose-world, ‘Easy Does It’ is making a name for itself in the U.S.A., Australia, South Africa and Japan. It’s easy to sum up why ‘Easy Does It’ is off to such a flying start: tolerance of black-spot is the main reason - though not the only one. There are other roses that resist black-spot, but usually they sacrifice beauty for functionality, leaving them plain, and short of personality. But ‘Easy Does It’ has personality to spare, its blooms could illustrate a saga of fiesta and celebration. ‘Easy Does It’ has beautiful large, flamboyant, frilly blooms, and masses of them. They are a cascade of colour starting in scarlet, then moving through a sequence of orange, apricot, raspberry and finally, just before the bloom finishes, light pink. It is a sight to behold, and on top of that, flowering goes on through the season; given the basics of food and water there is hardly a pause.
The name ‘Easy Does It’ was chosen by Weeks’ Roses in California who distribute the rose in the USA. Weeks’ decided to add it to their range ‘Easy to Love’, a collection of the roses that are easiest to grow. ‘Easy Does It’ joins two other Harkness roses in that collection, ‘Easy Going’ and ‘Livin’ Easy’ (aka Fellowship).
