The Harkness Collection of around 200 varieties of Roses are all available as Bare Root plants. This is the way we have been distributing Roses since we started in 1879, so we know it works well!
A Bare Root Rose is one that we have grown in a field (this is an 18 month process). We dig the Rose out of the field in Autumn to Spring, as the plant is entering the natural dormant season. Below there is a photo of a Bare Root Rose.
When a Bare Root Rose (see above) is delivered the only care needed before you plant it is to keep it it cool to cold and moist. The picture above shows where the green stems meet the root.
