Where to start with this beguiling climbing rose?
The flower is a the obvious starting point. This is a complex bloom in the way it combines shades and colours, the way that they appear to vary in different lights and stages of the bloom. The overall effect is a dusky smoky orange with russet, a colour that we haven't seen in another climbing rose. When fully open on a sunny day the effect is more of a glowing orange, as the flower goes over the petals veer towards a dusky mauve shade. With masses of buds and flowers that start to open into big flowers, developing to a full and very attractive form with plenty of petals, this rose is something truly different, continually amazing and simply beautiful. Nature showing us her magnificent ability to produce flowers of utter beauty and finding new colours for us to enjoy.
Having attempted to convey the unique beauty of the flower we can progress to the plant. The foliage is mid to dark green, red when young. There is a lot a leaf, so there will be a dense covering to any structure you cover with Wonderful World.
Health is first class, repeat blooming excellent and there is a light fresh rose perfume, it is not one of our many heavily scented varieties, but the unique flowers, robust bush and long flowering period make the compromise of limited perfume very acceptable.
One issue with this variety (or rather selling this variety) is that it is really hard to get a photograph that captures the dusky colour accurately as it has so many subtle changes, smoky, russet, orange and salmon are all words to describe the range that the flower displays and photos fail to capture.
We have enjoyed watching the progress of Wonderful World through our new rose variety trials for the last seven years. It is a new rose that has excited all our staff, and we look forward to hearing of the pleasure it will give to our customers.
