Charity Roses and the charities we work with

Here at Harkness we love working with charities. When we team up with a charity to create charity roses it is an exciting partnership. It means as part of our rose sales we are benefitting a charity too.

We work with a number of local and national charities to do just this this and our customers love to know they are helping out as well as getting a beautiful rose. Some of our charities include:

Bowelbabe

The Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK is a charity registered in England and Wales (1089464) Scotland (SC041666) Isle of Man (1103) and Jersey (247). We teamed up with the courageous Dame Deborah James last year to create this stunning rose. It is a beautiful bush rose with white/pink blooms.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK

This is a wonderful Floribunda rose – masses of fragrant blooms produced from early summer to first frosts. Ideal for beds and borders, this repeat flowering rose produces beautiful clusters of blooms with a good fragrance on attractive foliage from May to September. £2.50 from every sale will be donated to Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK (Registered Charity Number: 1106815).

Duke of Edinburgh’s Living Legacy Fund

Attractive, double flowers gathered in large clusters on long stems with healthy leaves are perfect as vase flowers. It is a shrub of medium size, suitable for rose beds or in combination with other perennials. Without a doubt, this is a rose you will be enchanted by. For every rose sold, we will donate £2.50 to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Living Legacy Fund. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an amazing achievement by the youth of the country.

RFU Injured Players Foundation

Money raised through sales of the rose will help fund the RFU Injured Players Foundation which provides support to rugby players who sustain a catastrophic spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury while playing the game. Rugby Football Union. The Rose is an official registered trademark of the Rugby Football Union. £2.50 from each rose sold will be donated to the RFU Injured Players Foundation (Registered Charity no.1122139). This beautiful hybrid tea variety boasts a fresh fragrance and large blooms in a striking deep red.

Huntingdonshire Society for the Blind

This is one of our latest additions. This beautiful compact rose will showcase gorgeous colours all through the season. The early flowers are dominated by yellow, lemon and gold. As the season progresses the gold becomes much richer and can include an undertone of pink. Flowers are shaped with an elegant high centre, the outer petal forming almost perfect concentric circles. Outstanding health, tough dark green leaves, a bushy plant and a strong perfume. (Registered Charity No. 202573).

Theses are just a few of the charities we work for. If you would like to look at more charity roses, head over to this page. For more information on rose care and rose diseases as well as hints, news and tips take a look at our blog.

When we supply charity roses, either bare root or potted, we rarely add charity information to the information card. Although we know some customers do love to see this, it isn’t possible with the space on the card for information.
