How to create a cottage garden rose arch

Rose Arches are a wonderful way to bring more space to your garden. By bringing the blooms up and over, you can enjoy sitting beneath them enjoying them not only visually, but the heady scents will be incredible.

When choosing the variety for your arch, you will need to look at rambling and climbing roses.

Rambling Roses

Ramblers produce masses of small to medium-sized flowers held in large clusters, making them ideal for creating dramatic effect. With their height and ability to grow and twist into the best places they can crow all over your arch and then be trained onto fences or walls to allow a wave of colour bringing your arch into your gardens structure. The majority of varieties will flower once in the summer often producing beautiful hips later through the season which will bring autumnal colours and food for wildlife. The rambling rose once established is strong and can be used as a support for other climbers, such as clematis, the looks that you can achieve will be bespoke to your garden and a real focal point.

Climbing Roses

Climbing roses have big, blousy flowering blooms, often showing singly or in small collections. They are a wonderful way of creating height in the garden and are most happy on an arch or trellis. As most varieties are repeat flowering, they are ideal for long lasting abundant blooms throughout the summer months.
