'Cardinal de Richelieu' is a compact Gallica rose with velvety, deep purple blooms and near-thornless stems.
This classic old rose forms a tidy shrub around 1.2m tall, covered in fully double flowers up to 8cm wide. The petals are rich, velvety and luxurious, fading softly at the centre. Each bloom carries a gentle, refined fragrance.
Flowering once each year in midsummer, it delivers an unforgettable burst of colour, contrasting against the dark green foliage. With its smooth stems, you can prune or cut flowers for the vase without fear of scratches.
Fully hardy, compact and reliable, 'Cardinal de Richelieu' is ideal for smaller gardens or cottage borders where space is precious but impact is important.
