'Tuscany Superb' is an old garden rose with richly coloured, powerfully fragrant flowers, which are far easier to handle than its dramatic appearance suggests.
Its main display arrives in midsummer, when semi-double flowers open along vigorous, upright stems. Each bloom measures up to 6cm across, with velvety dark crimson-purple petals surrounding striking golden yellow stamens. The contrast is intensified by large, deep green leaves, creating a display with all the depth and atmosphere expected from a classic old rose.
This variety is closely comparable to the widely grown 'Tuscany', but develops taller growth and larger flowers. Reaching around 1.2m, it works beautifully in a traditional rose border, mixed cottage-style scheme or near a path where its fragrance can be enjoyed at close range.
The stems are nearly completely thornless, a particularly welcome advantage when pruning, tying in growth or cutting blooms for the house. It produces one substantial flush in midsummer rather than repeating, concentrating its energy into a highly anticipated seasonal display.
Fully hardy and awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Tuscany Superb' combines historic rose character with proven garden performance. Plant in a sunny, open position in fertile, well-drained soil, water well after planting and keep watered during its first season.
Supplied as a bare root rose, ready to plant.
