An award-winning rambler that cloaks pergolas, walls or mature trees in clouds of pink-tipped white blossom, flood the garden with musky perfume and finish with glowing red hips.
Rose 'Francis E. Lester' produces rosy pink buds in great clusters, which open into masses of fragrant, single flowers. Each bloom begins white with a delicate pale pink wash around the petal edges, then gradually fades towards pure white. With flowers at different stages opening together, the plant becomes a wonderfully layered sweep of pink and white.
The scent is strong and distinctly musky, travelling across the garden, making this a superb rose for planting where its perfume can drift around paths, terraces and seating areas.
Long, vigorous stems stretch up to 4.5m, giving 'Francis E. Lester' the strength to cover substantial arches, pergolas, fences, walls or mature trees. Copper-tinted young growth matures into handsome dark green foliage, creating an attractive framework before the flowers even open.
This rambler produces one tremendous summer flowering rather than smaller repeat flushes, and it makes that season count. The open blooms are valuable to pollinators, while small red hips follow later, carrying the display into autumn.
Fully hardy, awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit and recommended by the RHS as a 'Plant for Pollinators', this is a proven rose with scale, scent and undeniable garden presence.
